Back in December, I was attending a general-seating play at 59E59. I arrived early and chose my seat with care. When the house was almost full, A young woman and man came in, the woman pointed at a single seat elsewhere and told me I could go sit in it so she and her date could sit together. “No,” said I. There were a couple of empty duos, not nearly as good seats, and anyway I don’t like being bossed about, particularly by a young woman who believes that because she is with a man, she is worth more than I am. Interesting afternoon. Drove to a local-ish beach to take a walk by the water, two 20ish white boys in a cherry (color and condition) sportscar shortstopped me into the only available parking space. I yelled that I’d been waiting and it was my space – like they cared. So I pulled in behind them, blocking them in. They sat in their car, laughing. Continue reading
On the penultimate day of the year, I find myself verkelmpt, spontaneously expressing gratitude to those I love, those I know well, those I’ve connected with once or twice, those whose lives boggle my mind with their strength and goodness, to whose examples I aspire.
